Smash. Aa-argh!

Saturday, June 4th, 2005

I did something today that I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to do again after the accident; play badminton. Needless to say I was on the losing side for all of the matches, and I did have to bow out before the end, but it felt great being able to play again.

Silver lining

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

One good thing came out of the crash – all that time on the bus meant I was able to catch up on some reading.

Hmmm. Doesn’t seem like much when you write it down, but I felt like I was powering through a big stack o’ books.

Counsellor’s Cox and Evans

Monday, September 27th, 2004

Apparently, I’m a councillor according to the BBC’s ‘What am I like?’ personality test.

Well, I’m always up for free lunch and a meeting or two and there’s nothing wrong with a bit of backscratching …

Tea! I’m gonna live forever …

Monday, August 16th, 2004

Drinking tea can extend your life by up to 4 years according to studies quoted in today’s Daily Mail. I drink my (decaffienated) tea by the pint so this is good news for me.

Yipee for PRP

I just got my performance-related pay through. This is the first time at any organisation that a) I haven’t had to go begging for extra money becuase I thought I’d done a good job, and b) that the amount involved has been significant enough to warrant a celebration. The only question now: what to spend it on?

I grew some garlic!

Monday, August 9th, 2004

The missus dug it up on Friday and we left it out to dry. Yesterday it went into a frying pan with some onions, mushrooms, liquidised red pepper, chilli powder and tinned tomatoes for a basic tomato sauce. Tasty!

It’s probably the easiest thing I’ve ever grown. In Autumn you plant cloves from a shop-bought garlic bulb into compost in a pot. I can’t remember how deep it has to go, but experiment. And that’s it – you just leave it to grow. A thick, spring onion-like stalk will develop and flower around July. When the flower dies pick it, leave it to dry, then remove the stalk and roots and you’re there, ready to stink the kitchen out.

You know you’re getting old when …

… every film you see lasts about half-an-hour too long.

This was the case with Spider Man 2 last night, Farenheit 9/11 the other week, The Return of the King, Spirited Away, Russian Arc and in fact all the films I’ve seen at the cinema recently except Belleville Rendezvous, which at just over an hour is absolutely perfect!

Patriotic leave

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

Well, I’ve managed to book my spot in front of the telly for this evening’s match on the grounds of patriotic leave (to be made up at a later date, of course).

I’m ba-ack …

… from a mini-hiatus whilst concentrating on my research project. I suppose it shows you have to be committed to a blog or be someone for whom good writing comes easily to really make a go of it. Let’s see shall we …

It’s oh so quiet …
