Hayfever honey smoothie 23 July, 2003

I’ve been suffering really badly with my hay fever recently. As I was cycling to work I remembered The Missus saying that she’d read something about local honey being good for hayfever. (The exposure to the pollen in small doses builds up resistance in a similar way to a traditional vaccine, or something.) Well, I dislike honey nearly as much as The Missus does (she won’t even have honey and lemon when her throat’s sore), but I have recently taken a shine to vanilla and honey smoothies (curse Sainsbury’s with their oh-so-tempting offers). Trouble is they’re so bloody expensive. Solution? Make my own. A quick search on the web provided this recipe, and some experimentation last night resulted in the following:

2 bananas
175ml low fat natural yoghurt
3 desert spoons of locally produced honey (we haven’t got tablespoons)
25 ml of milk
ΒΌ vanilla pod
2 ice cubes

1) Peel the bananas and cut them into chunks.
2) Put the banana chunks, yoghurt, milk, honey and ice cubes into
a mixer or blender.
3) Slice the vanilla pod open lengthways and scrape the seeds into the blender.
4) Blend until smooth.
5) Pour and enjoy.

If I say so myself, it tasted pretty good and I got a decent night’s sleep (no tickly coughing so The Missus’ll be happy).
